I try to not ever make my classes boring. Yes, sometimes they have to be.
However I did partake in a lesson that I found hilarious. I was using the poem "Oh, Captain, my Captain" by Walt Whitman. The last line of each stanza is "has fallen cold and dead" which of course is about the captain. Anyways, its a dramatic poem etc etc. I decided that each of the students needed to memorize a stanza to say in front of class. They needed to act it out with feelings and emotions. I of course did an example.
I needed a dead captain so I pulled one of the students in front, stood behind him, and pretended to slit his throat. He, of course on cue fell to the floor, dead.
Welcome to my classroom.
